Role overview
This position supports the reception area on Philip Ward at Sir Robert Peel Hospital. The post holder will be expected to bring an upbeat attitude, strong organisation, and the flexibility to handle a varied workload in a busy clinical setting.
What the role involves
You will provide front-of-house, administrative, and clerical assistance for outpatient scheduling and day-to-day ward reception activity. The role includes handling enquiries from patients, relatives, and wider teams by phone, email, and in person, while helping patients feel welcomed on arrival.
- Greet patients warmly as they arrive in the department.
- Use digital systems to support patient admission and discharge processes.
- Arrange ambulance transport where required.
- Keep patient records up to date and manage filing and scanning of notes.
- Work across multiple computer systems as part of daily duties.
- Pass patient concerns or questions to the nurse in charge when needed.
- Maintain a professional, friendly, and inviting reception environment.
- Use your own judgement and take initiative when responding to tasks.
- Handle several priorities at once and adapt quickly to changing needs.
- Communicate with patients, relatives, and multidisciplinary teams by telephone, email, and face to face.
