Job Overview
The QA Chemist / Assistant is responsible for performing tests on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products to verify compliance with specifications, testing methods, and inspection plans. They ensure quality integrity in alignment with the Quality Management System and maintain adherence to EHSS (Environment, Health, Safety, and Security) standards, both personally and across company operations.
Environmental Health, Safety, and Security (EHSS) Responsibilities
- Proactively participate in EHSS site initiatives including timely completion of training, reporting safety observations and near misses, and engaging in Job Safety Analysis.
- Support audits and the rectification of hazards or unsafe conditions, contributing to thorough EHSS investigations.
- Maintain and promote 5S practices and good housekeeping standards within the laboratory to ensure constant cleanliness and order.
- Take part in risk assessments and investigations when necessary.
Quality Control Duties
- Operate advanced analytical instrumentation such as Gas Chromatography (GC), Gas Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry (GCMS), High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), and Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) according to test plans.
- Ensure precise data acquisition and accurate entry of records into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Assess quality of incoming raw materials in line with established operational protocols and safety assessments.
- Conduct chemical and physical property testing per Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), enabling batch adjustments during the production process as required.
- Systematically document and organize testing records to ensure full traceability.
- Coordinate QC release of in-process and finished product test results, monitoring parameters to confirm compliance with process conditions and specifications.
- Analyze control charts to detect the necessity for new standards or instrument servicing.
- Collaborate closely with the shift operations team to prioritize testing activities, deliver prompt production support, and maintain reliable product quality information.
- Contribute to the development and updating of SOPs consistent with ISO 9001:2015 standards and participate in the periodic review of laboratory safety risk assessments.
- Perform calibration and preventive maintenance on lab equipment to safeguard proper operation and troubleshoot malfunctions.
- Manage laboratory inventories including chemicals, reagents, solvents, apparatus, consumables, disposables, and spare parts, ensuring appropriate tracking and safekeeping.
- Coordinate efforts with QA, Production, Logistics, and EHS teams to assist in laboratory testing and technical troubleshooting.
Analytical Testing Expertise
- Apply knowledge of various operations and analytical techniques to interpret material characteristics using laboratory instruments.
Troubleshooting and Analytical Mindset
- Lead or support root cause investigations concerning laboratory equipment failures or irregular test outcomes.
- Initiate additional sample preparations and laboratory analyses in response to atypical test results to identify causes of non-conformance and facilitate corrective actions.
- Utilize statistical tools and calculations to interpret data effectively.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Minimum diploma or bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Process Technology, Bioscience, or a related field.
- At least 3 years of relevant experience, preferably in chemical wet laboratory operations.
- Proficient in operating and maintaining analytical and wet lab equipment, with the ability to analyze results accurately.
- Thorough knowledge of quality standards, test methods, and lab procedures, able to perform chemical and physical analyses with minimal supervision.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment and familiarity with standard laboratory software such as Microsoft Excel, LIMS, and SAP is advantageous.
- Able to comprehend and adhere to SOPs, work instructions, reports, forms, and risk assessments.
- Experience using SAP Quality Management module to update test data and oversee releases.
- Strong communication abilities and capability to work rotating shifts.
