Project Manager - Transmission Overhead Line Projects

About the Role

We are seeking a proficient Project Manager to join our Transmission team based in Hamilton or Rotorua, responsible for overseeing overhead line projects on Transpower assets and other network infrastructure. This role involves full ownership from project award to completion, collaborating closely with customers, crew members, and stakeholders to ensure projects are executed safely, on schedule, and within the financial plan.

This position requires hands-on project management, with dynamic daily tasks ranging from on-site inspections for scope and access planning to coordinating outages, managing contractors, monitoring financial progress, and maintaining client relations to meet expectations.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the entire lifecycle of transmission overhead line projects from initiation to completion.
• Ensure project delivery meets safety, timing, budget, and quality standards.
• Prepare detailed project estimates, work packages, and documentation.
• Coordinate all necessary resources including materials, contractors, and outage scheduling.
• Collaborate with customers, designers, schedulers, field crews, and other stakeholders.
• Track budgets, invoicing, work in progress, and overall financial metrics.
• Identify and manage risks proactively, resolving challenges as they arise.
• Complete project close-out with thorough documentation, lessons learned, and formal customer handovers.

Experience and Skills

• Practical project management experience, particularly in electricity transmission, distribution, or civil infrastructure projects.
• Strong planning, organizational, and communication abilities for engaging customers, contractors, and teams effectively.
• In-depth understanding of project financials and commercial outcomes.
• Experience with health, safety, quality, and environmental compliance requirements.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and confident decision-making.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Microsoft Project.
• Possession of a Class 1 driver's licence.
