About the Opportunity
Located in Cairns, this Project Manager role is focused on coordinating several projects and delivery workstreams that support Defence vessel in-service support and maintenance programs. The position reports to the ABF Program Manager and carries responsibility for delivering projects against agreed timelines, budget targets, quality expectations, and contract obligations. You will lead a multi-skilled team, keep a strong customer focus, and make sure all project objectives are achieved. The role also requires applying sound project management methods and controls, providing hands-on leadership, guidance, and effective use of resources so delivery is completed safely and to the expected standard.

Key Responsibilities
- Support and motivate the project team so delivery meets or exceeds cost, schedule, quality, customer, and contractual commitments.
- Oversee estimating, budgeting, and cost control across the full project lifecycle to keep spending within approved limits.
- Develop and apply suitable project management methods and tools to manage project delivery effectively.
- Proactively coordinate all project stakeholders and Austal clients within business constraints.
- Lead, enable, and assist multidisciplinary teams so they can perform strongly and deliver successful project outcomes.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of proven project management experience.
- At least 5 years of proven experience in performance-based contracting.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills, with demonstrated stakeholder management capability.
- Solid understanding of project cost control, risk management, and earned value principles.
- Knowledge of safety management practices, including control of contractors and high-risk operations, is preferred.
- Exposure to project management methods, tools, and techniques such as PMBOK, Ten Step, PRINCE2, or similar is preferred.
- Membership or affiliation with a project management body such as AIPM, PMI, IPMA, or an equivalent organisation is preferred.
- Competence in MS Office is preferred.
- Maritime and frontline leadership experience is preferred.
- A degree or trade qualification in a recognised maritime discipline is preferred.
