Lumi is a storytelling platform built around generative AI. Backed by founder Colin Kaepernick, the company’s goal is to make storytelling more accessible so more people can create, imagine, and express themselves. The team focuses on advanced AI generation tools that help users build original characters, develop stories, and create immersive content from home.

Lumi also works with K-12 schools, where students use the product to make comics and graphic novels in class. The company collaborates closely with teachers to support engagement and literacy outcomes.

Role overview

The Product Designer will shape Lumi’s design direction, from strategy through delivery. This role involves working with a wide range of users, turning insights into thoughtful product solutions, and helping define how the product evolves.

Responsibilities

• Set and drive the design vision, strategy, and execution across Lumi’s product experience.
• Interview and learn from varied customer groups to uncover needs and translate them into effective design solutions.
• Create fast prototypes, test concepts with users, and improve designs based on what the feedback shows.
• Work closely with product, engineering, and customer success teams to deliver polished, scalable, and inclusive experiences.
• Help influence overall company direction and product planning through design thinking.
• Explain design decisions clearly so stakeholders stay aligned and product choices are well understood.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years of experience as a UX Designer or Product Designer, with a portfolio showing ownership of complex work across one or more product areas.
• Strong command of Figma and prototyping tools.
• Excellent interaction and visual design ability, including experience using and contributing to design systems.
• Comfort working through ambiguity, defining problems, and finding practical solutions quickly.
• Experience leading user research and applying findings to design decisions.
• Experience in EdTech and AI-powered product design is a bonus.

Compensation and benefits

The salary range for this role is $165,000 to $215,000, along with equity and benefits.

Location

This is a remote position for candidates based in the United States. The team also meets for quarterly trips.
