Procurement Officer - Steel Manufacturing

Our client is a reputable steel manufacturing company with over 20 years of expertise in delivering superior steel products for the construction and infrastructure industries.

Job Purpose

They are looking for a skilled and proactive Procurement Officer to oversee the procurement activities within their steel production operations. The role involves ensuring prompt acquisition of quality materials, industrial machinery, mechanical and electrical spare parts, and consumables while fostering dependable supplier connections and securing cost-efficient purchasing.

Key Responsibilities

• Handle procurement requests originating from departments such as Production, Maintenance, Engineering, and Stores.
• Identify and assess potential suppliers, securing competitive bids.
• Analyze quotes taking into account price, quality, specifications, delivery timelines, and payment conditions.
• Conduct negotiations over pricing and commercial agreements with suppliers.
• Create, track, and ensure timely follow-up of purchase orders until delivery completion.
• Procure mechanical and electrical spare parts, machinery, consumables related to production, and maintenance materials.
• Establish and sustain strong local and international supplier relationships.

Qualifications and Experience

• Possess a Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Procurement & Supply Chain, Purchasing & Supplies, Business Administration, Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Engineering, or a relevant discipline.
• At least 5 years of practical procurement experience.
• Experience in steel manufacturing, rolling mills, foundries, metal manufacturing, heavy engineering, wire manufacturing, or industrial manufacturing sectors is highly desirable.
• In-depth understanding of industrial machinery and mechanical/electrical parts.
• Strong negotiation capabilities, supplier relationship management, and analytical skills.
• Familiarity with Tanzanian supplier markets and proficiency in international sourcing.
• Proficient in Excel and ERP or procurement software; knowledge of Tally Prime is beneficial.
• Excellent communication, meticulous attention to detail, integrity, and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
