Role Overview

The Pound Operations Officer plays a vital role in supporting the daily functioning of the Animal Management Facility. This position ensures animals receive safe, clean, and compassionate care, assists Ranger Services in facility upkeep, provides excellent customer service, performs administrative duties, coordinates with rescue groups, and facilitates animal rehoming. The role is integral to promoting positive animal welfare, operational efficiency, and community service standards.

Primary Responsibilities

• Deliver daily care to animals including feeding, watering, exercise, monitoring well-being, conducting behavioural assessments, identifying health concerns, and ensuring safe handling, transportation, and rehoming.
• Maintain facility cleanliness and hygiene through regular cleaning, laundry, waste management; monitor inventory and order necessary supplies; ensure animal housing is safe and compliant.
• Provide courteous and professional customer service, handle enquiries regarding reclaims and adoptions, conduct animal meet-and-greets, keep accurate records, and liaise effectively with staff and external partners.
• Assist in daily pound operations, collaborate with rescue organizations, support livestock care, perform administrative backup tasks, and undertake additional duties as assigned.

Candidate Requirements

• Prior experience in animal care settings such as pounds, kennels, veterinary clinics, farms, or rescue organizations.
• Competency in safely handling domestic animals including dogs and cats.
• Strong communication and customer service abilities.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team.
• Capacity to perform physically demanding tasks, including cleaning, lifting, and animal handling.
• Basic computer proficiency and administrative skills.
• Possession of a valid "C" Class Driver's Licence.
