Role Overview

We are looking for a proactive and meticulous Personnel Security Officer to join our expanding Security team. The successful candidate will oversee personnel security and workforce screening, managing background checks, assessing security risks, and ensuring compliance with Defence Industry Security Program (DISP), AusCheck, NSSIC, and AS4811-2022 standards. This role offers the chance to support a significant defence organization by protecting its people, assets, and confidential information.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out identity verification and workforce screening aligned with AS4811-2022 standards.
• Manage AusCheck background screening procedures and maintain accurate security records.
• Evaluate personnel security risks and advise on the suitability of candidates and employees.
• Verify eligibility and requirements related to Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Identification Cards (NSSIC).
• Offer guidance to managers and other stakeholders on personnel security issues, including clearance and non-clearance holders.
• Conduct ongoing suitability assessments such as social media screening and personnel security reviews.
• Collaborate with security teams, managers, and supervisors to investigate security concerns and ensure DISP and legislative compliance.
• Apply strong administrative skills within an office environment to support security operations.

Candidate Profile

• Previous experience in personnel, physical, or information security, preferably within Defence, Government, or DISP-regulated environments.
• Comprehensive understanding of security governance, risk management, compliance, and assurance frameworks.
• Proven expertise in identifying, assessing, and managing security risks while preserving confidentiality and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, capable of influencing and delivering clear security advice.
• Strong analytical and decision-making abilities when reviewing personnel suitability and security concerns.
• Competent in managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines in a dynamic workplace.

Eligibility Requirements

This position mandates possession of a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance at NV1 level. Candidates’ eligibility relies on obtaining and maintaining these clearances. Refer to the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency for further eligibility verification.
