Overview
The Personal Banker plays a key role in delivering superior service to BMO clients and prospects. This position involves identifying customer financial needs and offering advice on solutions that best serve their interests. Collaboration within the branch and with other BMO partners across various channels is essential to provide an outstanding customer experience and support business goals.
Primary Responsibilities
- Proactively engage both current customers and prospects through needs assessments to foster loyalty and identify opportunities for immediate and future financial solutions.
- Conduct detailed needs analyses to match clients with suitable financial products across everyday banking, retail investments, personal lending (including home financing and self-employed applications), and small business banking solutions.
- Advise clients on digital and self-service banking tools to streamline and simplify their banking experience.
- Support transactional needs at the branch based on customer volume.
- Develop new client relationships through outreach, appointment setting, and participation in community engagement.
- Resolve consumer credit audit inquiries ensuring data accuracy and compliance with legal, regulatory, and lending policies.
- Manage risk in the loan portfolio by adhering to bank guidelines and protecting assets, maintaining credit quality and portfolio diversification.
- Provide credit recommendations for personal lending products, including mortgages, following sound credit principles and bank procedures.
- Function as an integral member of a diverse and cooperative branch and market team.
- Integrate marketing campaigns and offers into client conversations to deliver strategic financial advice.
- Maintain accurate and complete work documentation.
- Take initiative in creating personalized customer experiences through innovative approaches.
- Continuously seek ways to enhance the overall customer experience.
- Contribute to business outcomes and uphold customer satisfaction standards.
- Adapt to flexible work schedules and multiple branch locations if required.
- Ensure compliance with risk, privacy, and regulatory policies safeguarding customer interests.
- Stay informed about the financial services market, legal regulations, and ethical standards.
- Maintain updated expertise on personal banking products, practices, and emerging trends.
- Identify and report suspicious financial activities related to money laundering as required.
- Handle complex tasks and escalations adhering to rules and limits.
- Analyze issues carefully and determine appropriate next steps.
- Perform additional responsibilities as necessary and take measured risks aligned with the bank’s Risk Management Framework.
Qualifications and Skills
- 2 to 3 years of relevant experience preferred, complemented by a post-secondary degree or equivalent in a related discipline.
- Completion of registration to sell investment products for Canadian jurisdictions is required.
- Appropriate lending certifications and designations are necessary.
- Solid understanding of personal and small business banking needs and solutions.
- Knowledgeable about retail investments and lending products.
- Prior experience in financial services is advantageous.
- Proficiency with social media platforms, tablets, smartphones, online tools, and apps.
- Demonstrated success in consultative sales or customer service roles focused on personalized experiences.
- Strong passion for serving customers with dedication.

Compensation and Benefits
The annual salary range offered for this position is $36600 to $67500, reflecting BMO Financial Group’s target annual pay. Salary levels vary depending on location, experience, skills, education, and qualifications. Roles with commissions will have salaries adjusted accordingly; part-time roles are compensated on a pro-rated basis.
BMO’s total compensation package may include performance bonuses, discretionary incentives, health insurance, tuition reimbursement, accident and life insurance, and retirement plans.
