Overview
The Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation has spent more than 90 years supporting teachers and promoting strong public education. It is a professional body representing more than 14,000 teachers working in PreK-12 schools across Saskatchewan.
About the team
The Saskatchewan Teachers Retirement Plan team administers the pension arrangement for Saskatchewan teachers so members can receive a lifetime pension when they retire. The team relies on strong technical and analytical support to deliver precise calculations and guide teachers before and during retirement.
Role summary
Pension Technicians handle a wide range of pension-related work across administration and financial services. They also explain plan terms and provisions to members in a clear and professional manner.
Key responsibilities
- Manage multiple pension administration tasks as part of day-to-day plan operations.
- Support financial service activities connected to the retirement plan.
- Prepare and review pension calculations with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Communicate pension plan rules and provisions to members.
- Use plan policies, legislation, and internal procedures to make correct decisions.
Qualifications
Applicants should have an undergraduate degree in business administration, economics, or mathematics, along with 2–3 years of relevant experience in pensions, benefits, or total rewards. Strong customer service, communication, interpersonal, mathematical, and teamwork abilities are important. Comfort with Excel and Word is required, as is the ability to interpret legislation, written material, and policy. Mature judgment is expected. Experience with automated pension administration systems is considered an asset, and knowledge of pension plan administration methods is also an advantage.
Certification
A Pension Plan Administration Certificate, or an equivalent qualification, is a strong plus. If the selected candidate does not already have PPAC certification, they must complete it.
