Payroll Officer

About the Role

Lithgow City Council presents an opportunity for a Payroll Officer based in Lithgow, NSW. Reporting directly to the Finance Services Manager, this position involves overseeing the accurate and timely processing of the Council's weekly payroll cycle in compliance with internal policies, procedures, legislative requirements, and taxation standards. Key responsibilities include managing superannuation contributions and handling approved salary sacrifice deductions as outlined by the Council's procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute weekly payroll processing and functions for the Council.
• Maintain and update payroll systems and employee records accurately.
• Prepare and process superannuation contributions for all employees.
• Manage payment procedures for employee terminations.
• Administer salary sacrifice arrangements following Council protocols.
• Prepare annual individual payment summaries.
• Create and manage rostered day off schedules for indoor and outdoor staff.
• Stay informed and report on legislative changes impacting payroll.
• Carry out additional payroll-related tasks as needed.

Candidate Profile

• At least two years of comprehensive experience handling end-to-end payroll operations.
• Strong understanding of employment laws, superannuation, and tax obligations.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Experience in the use of electronic timesheets and payroll reporting.
• Detail-oriented with the capacity to meet stringent deadlines.
• Ability to ensure confidentiality of sensitive information consistently.
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
• Commitment to Work Health and Safety standards.
• Demonstrated ethical integrity and honesty.

Additional advantageous qualifications include familiarity with the Local Government State Award, experience with payroll software such as Technology One/CIAnywhere, and knowledge of salary packaging and employment contract coordination.

Salary and Benefits

• Weekly salary range between 1403 and 1587 AUD, based on experience and qualifications, with potential for higher compensation for outstanding candidates.
