About the Role
CAF Rail Australia is currently inviting applications for the position of Painter to join the Train Assembly Team at the Mindyarra Maintenance Centre in Dubbo, NSW. This role is integral to painting activities within the ongoing Regional Rail project, focused on refurbishing and completing rolling stock units.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute minor surface preparation tasks including sanding, masking, and touch-up painting on rail vehicles.
- Accurately mix and prepare paints and related materials following established technical specifications.
- Perform small repairs, corrections, and finish enhancements under supervisory guidance.
- Take routine measurements such as paint film thickness, gloss, and adhesion as needed.
- Properly maintain and manage painting tools, compressors, and equipment ensuring their care and cleanliness.
- Complete necessary control sheets and records in compliance with company requirements.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly workspace aligning with health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Report any hazards, incidents, or unsafe conditions promptly while adhering to safety procedures.
- Assist mechanical fitting operations during train completion works by supporting basic assembly, re-fitting, or minor mechanical activities to aid technicians and ensure unit readiness.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of two years of experience in a similar painting or related role within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
Project Overview
The NSW Government is undertaking a significant rail fleet replacement involving 29 new, safer, and more accessible trains servicing routes across NSW and connecting Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, and Brisbane. CAF plays a pivotal role in this as part of the Regional Rail project, with the Mindyarra Maintenance Centre becoming a hub for manufacturing, testing, and quality assurance of trains, and potential future shifts to warranty and maintenance teams.
