Role overview

Rio Tinto is hiring Operators for New Zealand Aluminium Smelter (NZAS) at Tiwai Point, near Invercargill. This is a full-time onsite role with complete training provided, so prior industry experience is not necessary. The position is suited to people looking for a stable, hands-on career in a safety-focused industrial setting.

The roster is family-friendly and follows a 12-hour rotating pattern of 2 day shifts, 2 night shifts, and 4 days off. This schedule gives you extended time away from work between rotations.

What you will do

• Operate mobile machinery and fixed plant equipment across the site.
• Carry out inspections and maintain clean, orderly work areas.
• Help support aluminium production activities.
• Perform manual tasks in an industrial environment that may require physical strength, endurance, and mobility.

What we are looking for

• A physically capable person who can handle practical, hands-on work in an industrial setting.
• A strong focus on keeping yourself and your team safe.
• Good communication and the ability to work well with others.
• A positive mindset and a genuine willingness to learn.
• The ability to work a 12-hour rotating shift schedule.
• A current full New Zealand driver licence, which is essential.
• A forklift licence with F endorsement is a plus.
