Position Overview
The National Account Director will strategically lead market access efforts across a portfolio of national and regional healthcare customers, including commercial payors, Group Purchasing Organizations, Integrated Delivery Networks, health systems, federal health entities, specialty pharmacies, and distributors. This role acts as the principal liaison for account relationships, aiming to expand product accessibility, enhance customer engagement, support product utilization, and achieve tailored account objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive strategic plans for assigned healthcare accounts at national and regional levels.
- Serve as the primary contact for market access matters with GPOs, IDNs, payors, health systems, and specialty pharmacies.
- Forge and retain executive-level connections with stakeholders such as pharmacy and medical leadership, procurement, and institutional decision-makers.
- Analyze healthcare market dynamics, including customer priorities, purchasing behavior, access challenges, and competitive landscape.
- Identify and act on opportunities to increase product adoption, access, and utilization, supporting business growth.
- Lead account-specific access strategies to facilitate product availability, formulary inclusion, and appropriate clinical use.
- Partner internally with Contract Strategy, Medical Affairs, Trade Relations, Marketing, Sales, Finance, and other teams to coordinate strategy development and execution.
- Manage customer negotiations, agreements, renewals, and implementation supporting contract strategies.
- Conduct business reviews, strategic meetings, and maintain a regular cadence of engagement with key accounts.
- Monitor account metrics, maintain CRM and reporting accuracy, and provide thoughtful insights to senior leadership.
- Travel is required up to 60-70% to maintain strong customer relationships and execute plans effectively.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree is mandatory; advanced degrees such as MBA, PharmD, or MPH are preferred.
- Over 10 years of experience in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, healthcare, or market access, including at least 5 years managing national accounts or similar healthcare customers.
- Proven track record building and sustaining strategic relationships with healthcare institutions and payors.
- Experience negotiating complex agreements and navigating access barriers in pharmaceutical distribution.
- Familiarity working collaboratively across diverse internal teams including Medical Affairs, Sales, Marketing, and Compliance.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
- Background in specialty pharmaceuticals, oncology, rare diseases, biologics, or other complex therapies.
- Knowledge of healthcare contracting, reimbursement frameworks, formulary decision processes, and institutional access strategies.
- Experience supporting product launches and lifecycle management in institutional channels like GPOs, IDNs, specialty pharmacies, and distributors.
- Strong executive presence, negotiation, communication, and relationship management capabilities.
- Analytical skill to convert customer insights and market intelligence into actionable strategies.
- Commitment to compliance, ethical standards, and scientific integrity throughout business practices.

Compensation and Benefits
The anticipated annual base salary range for this field-based position is between $168,000 and $210,000. Eligible employees may receive discretionary bonuses based on performance. Physical Requirements
