About the Role
GE HealthCare's Maternal Infant Care division is seeking a Mechanical Engineering intern to gain comprehensive exposure in various facets of mechanical engineering, spanning from requirement gathering to design, prototype development, and testing. Interns will work with critical life-saving equipment including incubators, warmers, and labor & delivery monitors, gaining valuable experience with medical device standards and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
- Design and conceptualize mechanical components and subsystems for new products or existing installations using core mechanical engineering practices.
- Create and review detailed engineering drawings following GD&T principles; conduct tolerance stack-up analysis and select appropriate materials and manufacturing methods.
- Utilize 3D CAD software for mechanical design and development tasks.
- Perform mechanical calculations, participate in FEA modeling and analysis, and contribute to Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
- Develop testing procedures and conduct verification to ensure design integrity.
- Understand and apply knowledge of industrial-grade plastics and polymers along with their design and manufacturing considerations.
- Seek mentorship actively to resolve challenges and enhance learning.
- Innovate to meet product requirements related to performance, reliability, cost-effectiveness, and ease of manufacture.
- Continuously enhance job-related skills and competencies.
Qualifications and Skills
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent field.
- Self-motivated, energetic, and goal-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Strong critical thinking and clear communication abilities.
- Adaptable to fast-paced and constantly changing work environments.
- Exhibits teamwork and boundaryless collaboration behavior.
