About KIDO
Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug Dibenjikewin Onaakonikewin ("KIDO") is the child and family service arm of the KI Nation, incorporating the Maamao Dibenjikewin Kanawaabajikewin (MDK) service model that extends beyond mainstream services to uphold the inherent power of KI Nation. It is dedicated to restoring traditional and spiritual teachings to promote a healthy self, families, and community grounded in culture and language.
Position Summary
The Maintenance Worker is responsible for the upkeep and repair of KIDO vehicles and related equipment. Tasks include general building maintenance such as plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, heating/cooling system repairs, and other maintenance as needed. This role reports directly to the Assistant Director and typically works 9:00am to 5:00pm on weekdays, with possible adjustments or shift work as required.
Key Duties
- Perform regular maintenance on office equipment.
- Inspect and service vehicles utilizing basic diagnostic tools.
- Interpret appliance operation manuals to conduct basic servicing.
- Assess repair needs and request specialized help when necessary.
- Complete routine repairs like drywall, window and door fixing, painting, and other facility upkeep tasks.
- Manage inventory of maintenance supplies, reordering as needed.
- Carry out snow removal and apply sand or salt to ensure safety.
- Work autonomously but maintain clear communication and collaborative respect among KIDO staff.
- Follow all KIDO policies including MDK Policy, KI Human Resources Manual, and workplace violence and harassment guidelines.
- Engage in required training related to maintenance and safety.
- Perform any additional duties assigned by management.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum five years’ hands-on experience in custodial and vehicle maintenance roles, including skills in carpentry, electrical, furnace, and plumbing trades; relevant education or certifications are advantages.
- Reliable, able to work independently with professional conduct.
- Proficient in building maintenance problem-solving.
- Strong verbal and written communication, including fluency in Anishininiimowin language.
- Must obtain First Aid, WHMIS, and maintenance certifications; valid Ontario Driver’s License required, with Class B license being an asset.
- Physical ability to lift 50 pounds, climb ladders, and access confined spaces safely.
- Maintain confidentiality and exhibit professional integrity.
- Effective time management skills and flexibility to work varied shifts.
- Knowledgeable of KIDO’s mission and values.
- Clear Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Check required.
- Willingness and ability to travel on short notice to locations such as Sioux Lookout and Thunder Bay.
