Maintenance Officer - Independent Living Units

Position Overview

The Maintenance Officer position is located at Walkley Heights, South Australia, responsible for providing both preventative and reactive maintenance services within the Independent Living Units (ILUs) adjacent to a residential aged care facility. This role aims to ensure a safe, operational, and visually appealing living environment that helps residents maintain independence while staying connected to the wider care community.

Key Responsibilities

Collaborating closely with the Home Manager or Maintenance Manager, the officer oversees all upkeep of buildings, infrastructure, and equipment within the ILU area, maintaining high standards aligned with resident expectations, safety protocols, and organizational policies. The role involves coordinating with ILU residents and the aged care facility to support seamless, integrated community care and wellbeing.

Required Experience and Skills

Candidates should have 2 to 3 years’ experience in a relevant trade or maintenance capacity, ideally within property, facilities, or village maintenance. Prior exposure to retirement living, independent living, or aged care environments is preferred, with knowledge of compliance, safety, and quality standards. Familiarity with fire safety, emergency system maintenance, managing contractor activities including safety documentation and service agreements, and prompt response to resident maintenance requests are essential. Candidates must demonstrate strong customer service skills focused on supporting older adults’ independent living and possess solid computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, maintenance software) with an eagerness to learn new systems. High integrity, reliability, and accountability are critical.
