About Fair Ways
Fair Ways is a children’s services charity in the Solent region, committed to creating lasting positive change through care, support, and education. Its work spans fostering, education, residential care, and family services, supporting more than 400 children, families, young people, and vulnerable adults each year. The organisation is guided by values that prioritise the impact made on society over financial gain.
Role overview
Fair Ways is hiring an IT Teacher for its school in Eastleigh. The role focuses on teaching young people with additional needs, especially learners with Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC). Students are generally taught in 1:1 or 2:1 settings through a personalised curriculum that reflects their individual needs. Many of them may have spent extended periods out of education and may have faced several unsuccessful placements before joining Fair Ways.
What the role involves
- Create tailored lesson plans, deliver teaching, assess work, and adapt instruction so each learner can access the curriculum effectively.
- Support students in building plans for employment, education, and training, while helping them work towards those goals through well-structured learning programmes.
- Take part in student assessment processes and remain accountable for progress, attainment, and learning outcomes in your subject area.
- Contribute to Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Personal Education Plans (PEPs) by supplying data that helps track progress, set targets, and shape lessons.
- Work with employers, colleges, universities, and training organisations to open up suitable opportunities for learners.
- Show awareness of how early life experiences can influence behaviour, including severe challenging behaviour, and be prepared to continue learning in this area.
- Use positive handling strategies where required to help keep situations safe and work consistently as part of a team.
- Support the Head of School and Deputy Head in shaping the curriculum and applying teaching and learning strategies that keep the subject engaging for all students.
- Understand and follow safeguarding requirements, including statutory duties, Fair Ways policies, and government legislation.
Working arrangements
The position is 37.5 hours per week and is term-time only. The post is based onsite at the school in Eastleigh.
Requirements
- Applicants must hold QTS, QTLS, or a comparable teaching qualification, or be working toward one.
- Strong knowledge of the IT curriculum at Key Stages 3 and 4 is required.
- Experience supporting children in a special educational needs environment is preferred, though transferable experience will also be considered.
- A full driving licence and access to a car are essential.
- A successful enhanced DBS disclosure is required; Fair Ways will cover the cost.
- Applicants must be able to prove their right to work in the UK, as visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
Benefits
- Access to staff prize draws with rewards such as £1000 holiday vouchers, weekend breaks, luxury hampers, and a £1000 fostering referral scheme.
- Holiday accrual, plus the option to buy up to 5 additional days of leave.
- Health and wellbeing support through Simply Health, an employee assistance programme, emergency financial help, and 24/7 counselling.
- Early Pay access, allowing a portion of salary to be withdrawn in advance each month for unexpected expenses.
- An Education Grant that funds accreditation up to master’s level, along with leadership development opportunities.
- Team-building events, summer festivals, wellbeing initiatives, discounted gym membership, and a cycle-to-work scheme.
- Annual Staff Awards, Long Service Awards, pension provision, and eligibility for a Blue Light Card.
- An inclusive workplace culture that welcomes diverse perspectives and communities.
- Some benefits may vary depending on contract type.
