Interdisciplinary Engineer GS-11/12

Position Overview

This permanent role within the North Atlantic Division, New England District, Environmental Engineering Section, Geo-Environmental Engineering Branch involves leading or managing technical efforts for environmental remediation projects. The branch supports EPA’s Superfund Program, Base Realignment and Closure Program (BRAC), Department of Defense’s Defense Environmental Restoration Program, and related missions. The incumbent functions as a technical lead or project manager, overseeing cleanup efforts of hazardous, toxic, and radioactive waste sites.

Educational Requirements

Applicants must meet one of several professional engineering or scientific degree standards: a bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program or equivalent coursework covering core engineering sciences; or a combination of education and experience evidenced by licensure as a Professional Engineer or Engineer Intern, passage of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam, relevant academic coursework, or closely related scientific degrees with professional engineering experience. Acceptable fields include civil engineering, environmental sciences, chemistry, geology, natural resources management, or physical sciences, with specified coursework and practical experience as defined by each series’ standards.

Experience Requirements

For GS-11 level, at least one year of specialized experience assisting with technical coordination and project-level support for environmental remediation is required. For GS-12, one year managing technical aspects of environmental remediation projects and providing leadership on technical support tasks is necessary.
