About the Role

Join a dedicated team making a meaningful impact on the lives of children and young people across Queensland as an Intake Officer in Child, Youth & Family services. This permanent full-time role offers work-from-home arrangements within Queensland along with monthly rostered days off and salary packaging benefits. You will coordinate the referral, intake, and placement processes to ensure children's safety and suitability of placements, collaborating closely with operational teams, carers, and external partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the end-to-end referral and placement process for children and young people entering care.
  • Organize and facilitate placement matching meetings involving Operational Managers, Therapeutic Practitioners, Cultural Support Planners, and other stakeholders.
  • Collect, review, and record referral details to enable informed decisions about placements and services.
  • Guide carers during initial placement phases by conveying vital information about the child's needs, health, daily routines, and family connections.
  • Ensure decisions conform to the CARE therapeutic framework and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Placement Principles as applicable.
  • Administer funding requests linked to enhanced placements and extra support services.
  • Keep meticulous records concerning clients, placements, and carers across various data systems.
  • Track placement capacities, vacancies, and agreements, guaranteeing all documentation complies with legal and contractual standards.
  • Foster robust relationships with internal teams and external organizations to maintain high-quality, responsive services.
  • Contribute to reporting and referral data to assist in service planning and recruitment of carers.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Social Welfare, Psychology, or a closely related field.
  • Proven background in Child Protection, Out of Home Care, or Child, Youth & Family services.
  • Experience with coordinating placements and managing risks in family-based or residential care settings.
  • Solid understanding of the Queensland Child Protection system.
  • Knowledge of how trauma, abuse, neglect, and family separation affect children and young people.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams managing balanced priorities.
  • Strong communication capabilities, both written and verbal, for building effective stakeholder relationships.
  • Familiarity with client management software and Microsoft Office tools.
  • Excellent organizational abilities, attention to detail, and capacity to work independently.
  • Current Australian driver’s license is essential.

Additional Information

Applicants must successfully complete probity clearances, including a National Criminal History Check and Working with Children Check where relevant. The role involves a maximum-term contract until 1 January 2027. The working arrangement is primarily from home within Queensland.
