Job description

Position Summary

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for the role of Housekeeper within the Teenage & Young Adult (TYA) ward team. This integral position supports the delivery of cancer and haematology treatment by creating a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for patients and their families.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure the ward and patient areas are impeccably clean, tidy, and prepared for daily use, maintaining high cleanliness standards.
  • Manage various non-clinical ward services such as handling stock inventory, ordering necessary supplies, monitoring refrigerator contents, reporting maintenance needs, and coordinating with domestic and catering departments.
  • Provide assistance to patients by preparing refreshments, supporting meal services, safeguarding personal belongings, and offering chaperone support when requested.
  • Collaborate closely with nurses, doctors, allied health professionals, and other team members to maintain ward efficiency, uphold safety protocols, protect confidentiality, and enhance patient experience.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Minimum GCSE level education or its equivalent.
  • Customer service experience demonstrating excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and a compassionate approach.
  • Possession of or willingness to obtain a Basic Food Hygiene Certificate.
  • Capability to work independently, initiate tasks, and contribute effectively within a team setting.
  • Previous housekeeping experience and familiarity with manual handling or COSHH are advantageous but not mandatory.

Additional Information

  • Must be willing to work flexible shifts, including weekends and bank holidays.
  • Employment is conditional upon successful completion of an Enhanced DBS check and NHS pre-employment screening.
