Job Overview

The Health & Safety Advisor will offer essential guidance and support locally to empower managers and employees in meeting rigorous health and safety standards required by the organization. This role is critical in fostering a workplace culture committed to zero tolerance of health and safety incidents within Walls Construction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain strong collaboration with business teams to actively assist and counsel on effectively implementing the Group Safety Management System.
  • Engage in selecting qualified individuals for key safety roles and partner closely with management and trainers to ascertain and facilitate their training requirements.
  • Oversee and ensure the establishment of risk assessment processes including production, approval, communication, implementation, and ongoing monitoring.
  • Monitor and ensure effectiveness of safety procedures related to lifting operations, temporary works, inductions, fire and emergencies, permits, and other specialized protocols necessary for safe work execution.
  • Contribute to establishing and sustaining safety committees.
  • Assess and address risks posed to third parties and other contractors.
  • Participate in evolving the Group-wide Safety Management System through suggesting improvements.
  • Keep up-to-date with all health and safety regulations pertinent to construction work by liaising with relevant safety managers, organizations, and trade associations.
  • Ensure thorough investigation of accidents and incidents to identify root and immediate causes, implement preventative measures, and defend claims robustly.
  • Provide detailed health and safety performance reports to management.
  • Communicate effectively at all levels within the construction industry to promote safety awareness.
  • Maintain professional, collaborative relationships with company directors, operations managers, project managers, and their teams.
  • Advocate the Group’s health and safety capabilities to both employees and clients.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Possess a relevant degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or a related discipline.
  • Have a minimum of 3 years’ experience working in the construction sector.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and practices.
  • Exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Show keen attention to detail and eagerness to learn continually.
