Group Shipping & Operations Manager

About the Role

We are looking for an energetic and hands-on Group Shipping & Operations Manager to lead and optimize our shipping and logistics functions. This role involves managing bulk and container shipments, collaborating with various stakeholders both internally and externally, and ensuring shipping processes are efficient, cost-effective, and compliant with regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee comprehensive shipping operations covering bulk and container shipments.
• Handle spot vessel chartering and optimize freight arrangements.
• Develop strategic shipping plans to guarantee timely and economical delivery of goods.
• Review and negotiate demurrage claims with customers, brokers, and ship owners.
• Coordinate with internal teams such as Renewable Feedstock Supply, Renewable Feedstock Sales, and Treasury to streamline shipment processes.
• Manage shipping schedules, monitor shipment status, and resolve any post-fixture operational challenges.
• Ensure strict adherence to shipping regulations, safety protocols, and customer needs.
• Implement templates and workflow processes to enhance team consistency and efficiency.
• Motivate and empower team members to resolve operational challenges and excel.
• Provide leadership and clear direction to the operations team fostering a positive and productive workplace.
• Set and track Objective Key Results (OKRs) to ensure smooth execution of operational tasks.
• Identify and drive process improvements targeting cost savings and higher customer satisfaction.
• Serve as the main liaison with terminal operators, managing all shipping-related communications.
• Negotiate terms with terminals to improve loading/unloading efficiency, storage, and terminal services.
• Collaborate with terminals to handle operational issues including equipment, cargo handling, and documentation.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the reporting manager.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience in shipping, logistics, or operations management, ideally within commodities or the oil sector.
• Thorough understanding of shipping operations for bulk and container cargo, including vessel chartering, freight negotiation, and demurrage management.
• Proven experience working with internal teams and external partners like terminals, brokers, and ship owners.
• Demonstrated leadership skills in managing teams, setting goals (OKRs), and implementing operational efficiencies.
• Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills for effective terminal liaison and issue resolution.
• Comprehensive knowledge of relevant shipping regulations, safety practices, and compliance standards.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities focusing on cost control and service quality.
• Familiarity with shipping/logistics software, MS Office applications, and reporting tools.
• Ability to operate effectively in a fast-moving environment while managing multiple shipments simultaneously.
