Job description

Role Overview

This position involves working in the Portering Department at Conquest Hospital, following an alternating shift schedule. Shifts rotate between Monday to Sunday from 08:00 to 16:00 and 14:30 to midnight. Training will also be provided to cover duties in the hospital's waste management department as needed.

Primary Duties

  • Transporting and escorting patients and visitors within the hospital
  • Performing mortuary responsibilities, including transporting deceased bodies and managing mortuary access in the mortuary assistant’s absence
  • Assisting ambulance crews and funeral directors during admissions as necessary
  • Managing internal specimen deliveries and transportation related to theatre and x-ray services
  • Maintaining hospital equipment and furniture by ensuring cleanliness and reporting defects to the appropriate team leader; moving items as required
  • Handling medical gas cylinders, including delivery and reporting issues in manifold rooms and gas supply systems
  • Responding promptly to emergencies such as cardiac arrests, major incidents, hazardous chemical incidents, traumas, helicopter landings, fire alarms, and patient collapses, bringing necessary equipment and assistance
