Position Summary
The General Manager will be fully accountable for the profit and loss performance of the manufacturing plant, overseeing all aspects including production, quality assurance, engineering, supply chain management, and administrative tasks. This leadership role focuses on operational excellence, strategic capacity and throughput planning, and continuous improvement efforts while fostering leadership development and sustaining strong customer relationships within the commercial plumbing sector. Reporting directly to senior corporate executives, the GM is the top leader at the site.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage complete P&L and operational outcomes such as revenue, profit margins, cost control, and capital investments.
- Supervise daily manufacturing operations encompassing metal stamping, fabrication, tooling, and assembly processes that add value.
- Develop and implement strategies to enhance capacity, productivity, and throughput aligned to business growth and customer needs.
- Lead and nurture a diverse leadership team including plant managers and leaders in Quality, Engineering, Tooling, and Supply Chain.
- Promote and execute Lean Manufacturing principles, 5S, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement initiatives to reduce waste and costs while increasing throughput.
- Ensure the facility complies with quality management standards such as ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 and relevant plumbing certifications like NSF/ANSI, ASME, CSA.
- Oversee tooling management, press upkeep, and capital equipment investment essential for new program rollouts.
- Maintain and expand relationships with key customers including OEMs and distributors in the commercial plumbing and building products industries.
- Champion a safety-first culture and ensure adherence to OSHA regulations across all departments and shifts.
- Handle workforce planning, labor relations, and talent development in unionized or non-union manufacturing settings as relevant.
- Work alongside corporate leadership on budget creation, financial forecasting, and long-term strategic planning.
- Assess and deploy new technologies, automation, and process upgrades to enhance competitive advantage.
Qualifications
- Degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Business Administration, or related field; MBA is an advantage.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership experience in manufacturing, including at least 5 years in roles such as General Manager, Plant Manager or VP of Operations.
- Proven background in metal stamping, precision fabrication, or metal forming manufacturing settings.
- Prior exposure to plumbing, HVAC, building products, or related industrial/commercial components industries highly preferred.
- Successful track record managing full P&L responsibility of a similar-sized, complex facility.
- Strong expertise in Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement methods, and quality systems including ISO/IATF standards.
- Demonstrated skills in building, leading, and developing multi-shift cross-functional manufacturing teams.
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and customer engagement abilities.
- Experience with ERP software, capital budgeting, and production capacity and throughput analysis.
