About the Role
Amey is looking to hire a General Building Operative to work onsite at His Majesty's Prison (HMP) Ranby. This role supports the Justice client (His Majesty's Prison and Probation Service) by contributing to the safe, clean, and effective operation of the prison facilities across England and Wales. The position requires working 39 hours weekly, distributed over a 7-day shift pattern, including one in four weekends on a rota basis. A 15% weekend working allowance is paid on top of the base salary of A328,792.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general maintenance duties and assist skilled tradespeople as part of a team within the prison environment.
- Offer professional support to colleagues and contractors, including escort duties when necessary.
- Carry out various do-it-yourself (DIY) tasks such as decorating, furnishing, notice board installation, and item repairs throughout the prison.
- Inspect appliances, fittings, and surroundings, reporting any defects promptly to the Team Leader.
- Contribute to maintaining cleanliness and tidiness, including litter collection and landscape upkeep on prison grounds.
- Undertake any additional facilities management responsibilities as directed by the team manager.
- Support local and corporate zero carbon initiatives, integrating sustainable practices wherever applicable.
- Ensure health and safety standards are consistently met throughout the contract.
Candidate Requirements
- Proven experience in general maintenance or DIY activities relevant to building upkeep.
- Possession of appropriate CITB certification or an equivalent qualification.
- Enthusiasm to acquire new skills and adapt to varied tasks.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a team setting.
- Successful applicants must undergo Prison Security Clearance, with support provided by Amey.
