Finance Manager - Uganda

Position Overview

The Finance Manager role involves managing the company's entire financial operations with a focus on compliance with Uganda's financial and tax laws, preparing precise financial statements, leading the finance team, and enabling management to make informed financial choices. This position demands expert knowledge in accounting, leadership skills, and autonomy in managing statutory reporting, taxation, audits, and controls.

Key Duties

• Supervise daily financial activities to ensure smooth operations.
• Compile monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports aligned with accounting standards.
• Maintain accurate and reliable financial records.
• Manage budgeting, cash flow, and financial forecasts effectively.
• Track expenditures and suggest methods for cost savings.
• Design and uphold financial policies and internal control systems.
• Prepare and file all necessary tax returns punctually following Ugandan tax laws.
• Collaborate with Uganda Revenue Authority on tax-related matters including transfer pricing documentation.
• Lead tax audits and respond to assessments and inquiries.
• Ensure timely statutory reporting and compliance with government regulations.
• Handle social security fund contributions and monthly remittance processes.
• Manage financial elements of import/export transactions and international payment settlements.
• Review customs financial documentation related to cross-border procurement and supplier payments.
• Lead, mentor, and enhance the finance team's performance and development.
• Foster a workplace environment that values accountability, integrity, and continual progress.
• Coordinate internal and external audit processes and ensure audit recommendations are followed.
• Identify and mitigate financial risks through strong internal controls.
• Prepare management reports and financial analyses for senior leadership.
• Provide financial insights to assist in strategic planning.
• Utilize ERP platforms like SAP to improve reporting and efficiency.
• Recommend and implement improvements to financial systems and processes.

Qualifications and Expertise

• Bachelor's degree or above in Accounting, Finance, Auditing, or related disciplines.
• Possession of an intermediate accounting qualification is mandatory.
• Professional certifications such as CPA or ACCA are preferred.
• At least five years of experience in finance or auditing roles.
• A minimum of two years in supervisory or managerial capacities.
• Proven capability to independently prepare statutory financial statements.
• Experience handling tax compliance and managing tax audits.
• Familiarity with import/export finance and international procurement is advantageous.
