Role Overview
MOTAT is searching for a multifaceted Exhibition Technician to assist in constructing, installing, and maintaining exhibitions accessible to visitors. This role involves diverse hands-on tasks for both temporary and permanent exhibitions across multiple sites. Responsibilities range from fabricating display furniture and mounts to troubleshooting interactive and audiovisual components, ensuring the galleries remain attractive and functional. Collaboration with designers, contractors, volunteers, and a dedicated team is essential, along with good time management and readiness for physical work.
Key Responsibilities and Skills
- Employ a variety of fabrication materials, tools, and methods; metalwork and mount-making expertise is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Identify and resolve basic mechanical and technical challenges effectively.
- Communicate clearly and interpret technical instructions accurately.
- Demonstrate safety awareness and ability to work independently within a busy workshop environment.
- Hold a full driver’s license; forklift license is a plus.
- Basic CAD knowledge and experience in handling museum or delicate objects are beneficial.
- Understand the demands of working in a visitor-centric setting with deadline adherence.
Working Conditions
This is a full-time role requiring 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. The workload may at times be physically demanding, involving heavy lifting. Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, or holidays could occasionally be necessary to accommodate installation schedules.
