Environmental Research Manager

About the Role

We are seeking a knowledgeable Environmental Research Manager to oversee comprehensive environmental research initiatives. This full-time remote position based in the United Arab Emirates involves directing scientific investigations, managing field studies, analyzing environmental data, and leading multidisciplinary projects focused on climate, ecosystems, biodiversity, pollution, natural resources, and sustainability challenges.

Responsibilities

• Formulate and execute research strategies, project plans, and long-term scientific programs aligned with organizational goals.
• Lead diverse projects spanning climate change, biodiversity, ecology, water and air quality, soil, marine environments, pollution, environmental health, and sustainability.
• Design research methodologies including sampling, fieldwork, lab investigations, monitoring, and data collection frameworks.
• Collaborate with environmental specialists, GIS experts, data scientists, engineers, sustainability professionals, regulatory bodies, academic institutions, and leadership teams.
• Conduct scientific literature reviews, baseline and impact assessments, risk evaluations, trend analyses, and evidence synthesis.
• Oversee field programs involving ecological surveys, biodiversity and habitat assessments, quality monitoring of air, water and soil, marine surveys, and other environmental monitoring activities.
• Set and maintain research quality standards addressing scientific integrity, data accuracy, lab procedures, statistical methods, reproducibility, and ethics.
• Develop and manage environmental datasets, geospatial databases, monitoring systems, scientific models, and knowledge management frameworks.
• Apply statistical modeling, geospatial analysis, remote sensing, ecological and predictive modeling techniques to analyze data.
• Establish KPIs covering research quality, project delivery, publication output, data integrity, stakeholder impact, funding performance, and program efficiency.
• Stay informed about evolving environmental trends, climate risks, pollution patterns, technological advances, and regulatory requirements.
• Lead environmental modeling, scenario analyses, forecasting, risk, climate impact, ecosystem, and sustainability research.
• Forge research partnerships with universities, government agencies, NGOs, technology firms, and consultants.
• Prepare proposals, grant applications, technical reports, scientific publications, presentations, policy briefs, and executive summaries.
• Manage budgets, grants, laboratories, field equipment, contractors, software, and external partnerships.
• Ensure compliance with UAE environmental regulations, ethics, health and safety, data governance, and organizational policies.
• Promote digital transformation integrating AI, machine learning, satellite imagery, environmental digital twins, automated monitoring, and advanced analytics.
• Utilize software and tools including ArcGIS, QGIS, Google Earth Engine, R, Python, MATLAB, ENVI, ERDAS Imagine, Power BI, Tableau, Microsoft 365, and scientific modeling platforms.
• Create executive dashboards, risk maps, trend reports, environmental indicators, and strategic recommendations to support leadership decision-making.
• Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team of scientists and researchers, fostering scientific integrity, curiosity, collaboration, innovation, and ongoing development.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or related field; master's degree highly desirable, with a PhD preferred for research-intensive roles.
• Professional certifications or memberships in environmental or scientific organizations are beneficial.
• At least five years of experience in environmental research or related scientific roles and minimum two years managing research teams or programs.
• Proficient understanding of research designs, environmental monitoring, statistics, climate science, ecological assessments, data analysis, and quality management.
• Experience with GIS and analysis tools such as ArcGIS, QGIS, Google Earth Engine; programming languages R, Python, MATLAB; and visualization tools like Power BI and Tableau.
• Familiarity with AI-driven environmental modeling, machine learning, satellite monitoring, digital twins, and geospatial technologies is a significant advantage.
• Strong leadership, communication, project and grant management, stakeholder engagement, technical writing, and problem-solving skills.
• Capacity to manage multiple research activities balancing scientific accuracy, logistical challenges, regulations, budgets, and diverse stakeholder needs.
• Ability to work effectively in fully remote settings collaborating with global multidisciplinary teams, with occasional travel required for fieldwork, meetings, conferences, and workshops.
