Job Summary

The role involves creating detailed manufacturing drawings and 3D/2D models for expansion joints by collaborating with engineering and planning teams. Drawings must support purchasing, manufacturing, quality control, testing, and shipping while complying with customer, regulatory codes, company standards, and manufacturing capabilities. This position requires thorough understanding of product materials, functions, and manufacturing requirements. Attention to detail is critical to produce high-accuracy drawings. Occasionally, extra hours may be necessary to meet urgent customer demands.

Core Responsibilities

• Generate and verify 3D models and 2D drawings using SolidWorks ensuring compliance with customer specifications, ASME codes, company standards, and manufacturing capabilities.
• Interpret and apply ASME codes, customer mandates, and company protocols clearly in drawings.
• Identify and suggest solutions for nonconformance issues, communicate necessary design deviations internally, and collaborate with departments to resolve design challenges.
• Ensure drawings provide adequate views and elaborate details for effective fabrication communication across teams, minimizing errors.
• Conduct interference checks on parts and assemblies using visual scale and animations; propose or implement dimensional corrections as needed.
• Evaluate manufacturability considerations such as weld accessibility.
• Perform additional tasks as assigned, generally within a 40-hour workweek with the possibility of overtime to meet workload pressures.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Independent worker able to perform self-review for accuracy and completeness.
• Eager learner aspiring to become a subject matter expert in expansion joints and associated manufacturing processes.
• Preferably holds Certified SolidWorks Associate (CSWA) certification or higher, or possesses CAD/design experience of approximately five years; a minimum of one year of product-specific drawing/design experience is advantageous.
• Associate degree in Engineering Technology or equivalent experience with at least five years in creating 2D drawings from 3D models.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience with ASME Sections VIII, B31.3, and B31.1 design codes is a plus.
• Background in drafting for heavy metal fabrication, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, or piping assemblies is beneficial.
