This role supports the strategic communication efforts of the City of Farmington Hills under the guidance of the Director of Communications and Community Engagement. The Communications Manager is responsible for crafting and distributing media and community messaging across various channels and platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Handle media relations by preparing press releases and media advisories, pitching story ideas, supporting press conferences, and assisting with communication during crises or sensitive situations.
  • Act as the main point of contact for the City’s public relations agency, ensuring consistent messaging and aligned media tactics.
  • Maintain and update news content on the City’s website, social media accounts, and internal employee intranet.
  • Lead and supervise one part-time staff member responsible for internal communications.
  • Provide communication assistance to various City departments, including support for special events, preparing speeches, and developing run-of-show plans.
  • Attend City Council meetings when necessary for high-profile issues, coordinating and managing press interview requests.
  • Perform additional related duties as required.
