Commis I - Pastry

Position Overview

Join JW Marriott in Doha as a Pastry Commis I, responsible for preparing specialized meals and substitutes, managing cooking appliance temperatures, and overseeing food preparation and presentation according to standards. This role involves ensuring proper food portions and garnishing, maintaining accurate food logs, and monitoring quality and quantity of food prepared.

Key Responsibilities

• Regulate ovens, grills, broilers, and roasters to ensure cooking precision.
• Thaw frozen food by transferring from freezer to refrigerator appropriately.
• Maintain food portion sizes, arrangements, and garnishing to meet presentation standards.
• Monitor quality and quantity of meals prepared, communicating with chefs about surplus food for daily specials.
• Inform Food & Beverage staff of menu specials and items that are out of stock.
• Prepare and cook food following recipes, quality expectations, and food preparation protocols, including cold food preparation.
• Assist management with hiring, training, scheduling, performance evaluation, counseling, disciplining, motivation, and coaching of staff; act as a role model.
• Adhere strictly to company policies including safety and security guidelines, report maintenance or safety issues, and complete requisite safety training.
• Maintain professional personal appearance and confidentiality of company information.
• Engage positively with guests and coworkers, use clear communication, and foster teamwork to achieve shared goals.
• Perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, bending, lifting (up to 25 pounds), and other duties as directed by supervisors.

Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum of a Technical, Trade, or Vocational School degree is preferred.
• At least 3 years of relevant work experience in culinary or pastry roles.
• No supervisory experience is required.
• No specific licenses or certifications mandated.
