About the Organization
The New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORDC) is dedicated to enhancing the physical, mental, and social welfare of the New Orleans community by offering safe and inclusive recreational, athletic, and cultural opportunities. The commission administers a vast array of programs encompassing sports, health, aquatics, day care, fitness, senior services, therapeutic recreation, youth camps, teen development, and athletics across more than 160 city-wide facilities. It also fosters collaboration with public and private recreational entities.
Position Summary
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) leads the planning, coordination, and supervision of NORDC's employees and programs, managing the development and implementation of policies and facilities. This role involves overseeing day-to-day operations, ensuring maintenance and functionality of various recreation sites, collaborating with external agencies and community groups, supporting the commission with strategic and financial resources, and reporting directly to the Commission. The CEO works closely with the Executive Director of the NORD Foundation.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as an internal advisor on recreation matters and participate in strategic planning at divisional and organizational levels.
- Engage with community groups including schools, churches, and parents through various communication platforms.
- Develop, implement, and interpret commission policies and procedures.
- Promote teamwork, information exchange, and shared understanding of goals, budgets, and projects supporting NORDC's mission.
- Manage delegation of recreational program operations city-wide.
- Regularly visit sites to assess program success and participant satisfaction.
- Ensure priority-based funding allocation and proper disbursement.
- Compile and deliver reports to the Commission as requested.
- Guarantee inclusivity in programming for all city residents, including underserved populations.
- Oversee budget review and expenditure monitoring to ensure financial efficiency.
- Manage financial activities to support funding, investments, and operational efficiencies.
- Authorize contracts and agreements with multiple stakeholders.
- Set staffing and service levels, oversee personnel management including recruitment, training, evaluation, and disciplinary processes.
- Respond to and resolve citizen inquiries and complaints effectively.
- Cultivate community relationships to bolster support and engagement with NORDC's mission.
- Represent the organization to external agencies and coordinate activities accordingly.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- At least five years of supervisory experience in parks, recreation departments, or sports organizations.
- Proficient in managing facilities, operations, and leading professional teams to higher performance levels.
- Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience.
- Knowledge of youth development best practices and strategic business management including resource allocation and leadership.
- Experience with marketing and public relations principles tailored to recreational services.
- Familiarity with program development, personnel management, recreational facility planning, risk management, and insurance.
- Ability to design performance measurement systems and foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
- Strong community engagement and support-building capabilities.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and report-writing skills.
- Proficient with computer and standard office systems.
Additional Information
The salary range offered for this position is $150,000 to $200,000 annually. Employment is full-time and onsite within the Greater New Orleans region. Prior to hiring, verification of education and relevant certifications/licenses is mandatory. Misrepresentation of credentials will result in withdrawal of employment offers.
