Role overview
This executive position is responsible for steering digital strategy, innovation, and transformation for NSW’s largest private hospital, with the goal of enhancing patient care through technology.
Adventist HealthCare Limited (AHCL), which operates Sydney Adventist Hospital and related businesses, is seeking a senior digital leader to shape the organisation’s next phase of healthcare modernisation. The role is based in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia and is an on-site full-time appointment.
Why this opportunity stands out
- Guide enterprise-wide digital change across a major private hospital environment.
- Take executive ownership of digital health, AI, and innovation strategy.
- Help define the future of care in a values-led not-for-profit healthcare organisation.
About the organisation
Sydney Adventist Hospital, known as the San, is part of Adventist HealthCare Limited. Established in 1903, it is NSW’s largest private hospital. The organisation is faith-based and reinvests in advanced technology and facilities to support patients, clinicians, employees, volunteers, and the wider community. AHCL’s businesses also include San Day Surgery Hornsby, San Radiology & Nuclear Medicine, and Sydney Adventist Hospital Pharmacy.
The organisation highlights a workplace culture built around care, teamwork, learning, flexibility, and strong support for staff. It also notes a team of more than 2,500 employees, 1,400 accredited medical officers, and 300 volunteers.
Key responsibilities
- Set and lead the enterprise digital direction, governance, and delivery for the organisation’s digital portfolio.
- Act as a strategic adviser to the CEO, Board, and Executive team on digital transformation, clinical informatics, cybersecurity, data, and AI.
- Lead the Digital Health team and promote a modern digital strategy that supports clinical excellence, patient experience, and organisational success.
- Build on the existing digital foundation, including the in-house SanCare electronic medical record platform, to advance the next stage of transformation.
- Use technology and innovation to improve patient care, clinician experience, and business performance.
Candidate profile
The organisation is looking for a values-driven digital executive who has led large-scale transformation in a complex healthcare setting. This is intended for a leader who treats digital capability as a strategic lever for health system improvement, not simply as an IT service function.
Ideal backgrounds may include current or former Chief Digital Officers, Chief Clinical Information Officers, Chief Information Officers, Chief Technology Officers, Chief Innovation Officers, or similar executive leaders with accountability for digital strategy and transformation.
Experience and qualifications
- Proven executive leadership of digital transformation, clinical informatics, or information management in a complex acute care hospital or health insurance organisation.
- Deep experience creating and executing enterprise digital strategy, transformation programmes, and technology investment roadmaps.
- Hands-on involvement in major digital initiatives such as EMR optimisation, clinical informatics, digital experience, cybersecurity, data and AI, or cloud transformation.
- Strong history of working with Boards, CEOs, and executive stakeholders to shape strategy, governance, and performance.
- Solid understanding of clinical informatics, digital health, analytics, data governance, and responsible AI use in acute care.
- Experience overseeing cybersecurity governance, digital risk, and compliance requirements.
- Commercial capability in building business cases, managing sizable digital investment portfolios, and delivering measurable outcomes.
- Collaborative leadership style with the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and influence a wide range of stakeholders.
- Postgraduate study in Health Informatics, Information Technology, Business Administration, Health Sciences, or a related field is required; an MBA, MHM, or similar advanced qualification is preferred.
- Applicants must have unrestricted legal eligibility to work in Australia, as visa sponsorship is not available.
Compensation and benefits
The salary guide is approximately $300,000 base plus superannuation, bonus, and not-for-profit salary packaging benefits.
- Salary packaging available up to $9,010 per FBT year, which may reduce taxable income.
- Up to 14 weeks of paid parental leave.
- Discounted gym access for employees and their families through Fitness Passport.
- Campus amenities include cafés, a gift shop, florist, pharmacy, and hairdresser.
- Additional benefits are also available.
Employment conditions and checks
Employment with Adventist Healthcare is subject to compulsory pre-employment screening. These may include professional references, a national police check, verification of Australian work eligibility, psychometric assessment, and other checks as required.
