Job description
About the Role
This role entails designing, developing, and maintaining the business intelligence framework that transforms data from trading, brokerage, asset management, and corporate finance operations into actionable insights to support decision-making throughout the organization. The candidate will be responsible for managing semantic data models, authoring DAX and Power Query expressions, creating executive dashboards, and overseeing the entire Power BI Service environment. The position prioritizes precise, secure, and efficient analytics aligned with data governance and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and sustain robust semantic data models including star schemas and hierarchies optimized for Power BI usage.
- Develop complex DAX measures and calculation groups to handle business and financial analytics.
- Create reusable Power Query transformations for clean, consistent datasets that support refreshes.
- Convert reporting requirements into scalable analytic models serving as a single source of truth.
- Craft interactive, visually coherent dashboards tailored for both executive and operational users.
- Employ strong data visualization concepts to emphasize insight over raw data presentation.
- Generate parameterized, drill-through, and paginated reports catering to diverse reporting needs.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to refine dashboard usability and relevance.
- Engage with business units, finance, and operations teams to gather, clarify, and document reporting and analytic needs including KPIs.
- Ensure data consistency by challenging ambiguous or conflicting metrics.
- Communicate insights and data caveats effectively to non-technical audiences.
- Integrate data from SQL Server, APIs, files, and internal systems; establish dataflows and monitored refresh pipelines.
- Verify data quality, perform validation and reconciliation across multiple data sources before publishing reports.
- Work with engineering teams to optimize upstream data models for reporting efficiency.
- Optimize data models, DAX queries, and report performance to ensure fast responsiveness.
- Maintain consistent naming, design, and modeling standards across all reports.
- Conduct thorough testing to validate report accuracy against source data before deployment.
- Implement row-level security and role-based access control according to business requirements.
- Manage Power BI workspaces, applications, capacities, gateways, and scheduled refreshes.
- Monitor and troubleshoot refresh failures, system performance, and user issues promptly.
- Partner with Information Security, Compliance, and Risk teams to ensure platform alignment with corporate and regulatory policies.
- Document data dictionaries, metrics, model architecture, and operational runbooks for maintainability.
- Track report adoption, usage statistics, and data quality metrics to inform leadership.
- Champion user training and promote self-service BI adoption across the company.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or related disciplines.
- Certifications in Microsoft Power BI (PL-300 Data Analyst) or Azure/Fabric data certifications considered a significant asset.
- Experience in financial services or regulated industries is highly desirable.
- Minimum of 4 years’ practical experience developing Power BI solutions with strong command of DAX and Power Query.
- Expertise in data modeling and advanced SQL for extraction and transformation.
- Proven ability delivering executive-level dashboards and scalable self-service analytics solutions.
- Hands-on experience managing Power BI Service, including gateway management, refresh scheduling, and security setup.
- Background in regulated or data-sensitive environments preferred.
Technical Skills
- Advanced proficiency in Power BI including DAX, Power Query (M), semantic modeling, and visualization best practices.
- Strong SQL Server and T-SQL skills with query optimization for analytics workloads.
- Expertise in star schema, dimensional modeling, and relationship management.
- Power BI Service administration covering workspaces, apps, capacities, and row-level security.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric, Azure data services, dataflows, Excel integration, and Power Automate.
- Knowledge of cloud architecture and data platform principles on Azure or AWS.
Behavioral Traits
