About KPMG and Role Overview

KPMG is a globally trusted professional services firm, renowned for its expertise, clarity, and commitment to helping clients overcome complex challenges, manage change, and grow sustainably. We seek passionate individuals who align with our mission to inspire confidence and encourage transformation for our clients, colleagues, and communities.

The Audit division at KPMG serves as a major provider of audit services across New Zealand, engaging with leading companies, financial institutions, and private enterprises. Our auditors are equipped with deep sector knowledge and apply a modern audit methodology that adheres to International Auditing Standards.

The Opportunity

As part of our Financial Services audit team, you'll collaborate with some of New Zealand's largest financial institutions, including banks, insurance firms, and KiwiSaver providers. Your work will assure stakeholders that client accounts accurately reflect financial reality, thereby supporting New Zealanders' trust in their financial stewards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Depending on client demands, the role may involve full management responsibility reporting to partners or assisting senior managers as an in-charge auditor.
  • Handling complex audits such as statutory audits, internal audits, investigation and acquisition audit reports, limited reviews, proposals, and special accounting services.
  • Planning, executing, and finalizing audit assignments for review by Managers or Partners.
  • Preparing client deliverables that clearly outline audit issues and offer potential solutions.
  • Conducting strategic analysis and identifying business and audit risks.
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of client processes and controls.
  • Performing higher risk and irregular audit tasks.
  • Managing junior team members' daily activities.
  • Ensuring compliance with KPMG's Audit Manual, auditing standards, and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

Qualifications and Experience

  • Membership with Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ), Certified Practising Accountants (CPA), or an equivalent international professional accounting body.
  • Experience with US-SOX compliance or Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (ICFR) audits is advantageous.
  • At least three years of relevant audit experience within a professional audit firm.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Technical proficiency in audit and related services.
  • Previous experience supervising junior staff is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
