About the Role

Join KPMG New Zealand's Deal Advisory & Infrastructure team in Wellington as an Associate Director or Director leading infrastructure economics. This role focuses on delivering economic insights to guide the design, funding, and execution of major infrastructure projects impacting New Zealanders' lives. The team advises on key financial, commercial, and strategic decisions for large infrastructure investments across public and private sectors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and contribute to advanced economic analyses that support infrastructure projects in sectors such as transport, water, and urban development.
  • Provide expert quality assurance and on-the-job guidance to consultants, ensuring high-quality outputs for complex engagements.
  • Present economic findings and recommendations directly to clients, adapting to their needs and questions collaboratively.
  • Support strategy and planning initiatives, including policy formulation, demand studies, and business case development.
  • Advise on government investment decisions by evaluating options through economic benefit quantification, risk modeling, and scenario analysis.
  • Deliver independent advice on infrastructure funding structures, beneficiary analysis, and finance solutions design.
  • Engage in business development activities to grow the team's infrastructure economics offerings and client base.
  • Contribute to training and capability-building within the team, enhancing collective expertise in economic frameworks.

Candidate Profile

  • At least ten years applying economic frameworks to infrastructure-related projects, including demand forecasting, cost-benefit evaluations, and economic beneficiary analysis.
  • Minimum of three years leading projects or providing final quality assurance for economic advice in policy, budget submissions, business cases, or funding initiatives.
  • Specialized experience in economic analysis related to transport, water, or urban development infrastructure sectors.
  • Proficiency in leveraging data analytics tools to handle large datasets and extract actionable economic insights.
  • Exceptional communication skills, capable of simplifying complex issues into clear, accessible advice.
  • Familiarity with New Zealand's Machinery of Government is desirable; alternatively, experience in economic advisory roles for private sector infrastructure or financing projects is valuable.
  • Strong business development skills and an aptitude for fostering trusted relationships internally and with clients.
  • Commitment to cultivating a collaborative, positive team culture and contributing to continuous skill development.
