Job description

Overview

GEMS American Academy in Qatar invites applications for a dedicated and skilled Arabic language teacher to join our Middle and High School teaching staff starting 1 August 2026. We seek an individual who embraces educational excellence and aligns with GEMS Values.

Primary Duties

  • Uphold and promote the ethos and high standards outlined in GEMS Core Values.
  • Deliver the Arabic curriculum ensuring accurate, current knowledge of content.
  • Prepare and conduct engaging lessons tailored to diverse learning styles using suitable materials and classroom environments.
  • Maintain clear documentation of lesson plans, curriculum maps, attendance, teaching resources, and assessment strategies.
  • Adhere strictly to all GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct.
  • Implement individualized teaching approaches accommodating students with diverse abilities including late entrants, ESL learners, academically varying students, and gifted learners.
  • Assign and evaluate student work; monitor and report progress academically, utilizing assessments to meet individual needs.
  • Integrate media and technology effectively into teaching practices.
  • Support students' overall development and advise them on educational pathways.
  • Engage with external educational organizations as necessary, such as Ministry of Education officials.
  • Participate in performance evaluations and pursue ongoing professional development.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in preparing educational content and coordinating pastoral care.
  • Contribute to and potentially lead extracurricular activities fostering school community ties.
  • Ensure student behavior is safely managed with strategies promoting self-discipline.
  • Promote cultural understanding and a passion for learning among students.
  • Assist with organizing school events including competitions, concerts, plays, and prize ceremonies.
  • Maintain open communication with parents, embodying GEMS philosophy while respecting confidentiality.
  • Demonstrate dedication beyond regular hours where required, participate actively in staff meetings and committees.
  • Fulfill additional duties as assigned by supervisory personnel.

Candidate Profile

  • Models and practices GEMS core values: respect, innovation, leadership, purpose, and perseverance.
  • Holds a Bachelor’s degree in Arabic Language or Literature along with a B.Ed or equivalent Level 5 teaching qualification (PGCE/PGDE).
  • Experienced in leveraging ICT tools within classrooms to enhance teaching and learning effectiveness.
  • Possesses a strong pedagogical skill set and commitment to the teaching profession with deep subject matter expertise.
  • Exhibits excellent communication skills, capable of fostering positive relationships with students and staff, and contributing to broader school initiatives.
  • Brings at least two years of teaching experience within the relevant subject and age groups.
