Role Overview
We are seeking an accomplished Retail Account Manager to join our New Zealand team and propel growth across some of the country's most significant retail accounts. This role focuses on commercial impact by managing sales, profitability, and increasing market share within key retail customers. You will cultivate strategic partnerships with national retailers, lead joint business planning efforts, and ensure excellent execution at the retail outlet level. Experience in retail and FMCG sectors is highly favorable.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and qualify new business opportunities within Grocery channels (Foodstuffs, Woolworths NZ) and Mass/Office channels (Warehouse Stationery).
- Manage account relationships and drive business development for a portfolio of key retail customers.
- Lead comprehensive range reviews from initial new line proposals through finalization and implementation.
- Establish and maintain strategic relationships with category managers, buyers, and key decision-makers.
- Analyze retailer category strategy, shopper behavior, and channel trends to influence range selection, pricing strategies, and promotional plans.
- Monitor competitor activities to guide commercial strategy adjustments.
- Manage profitability via pricing, promotional planning, and margin oversight.
- Achieve annual objectives related to sales volume, revenue, and gross margin.
- Collaborate with Trade Marketing, Product Management, and Supply Chain teams to ensure effective in-store execution including planograms, displays, compliance, and timely delivery (SIFOT).
- Translate sell-in/sell-out data from Nielsen, Quantium, and retailer sources into actionable insights for forecasting and performance improvement.
- Represent ACCO Brands at product line reviews, trade shows, and industry events nationwide.
Candidate Profile
- Minimum 7 years’ experience in Account Management with a strong commercial results history.
- At least 5 years of experience in FMCG sectors, particularly involving major grocery retailers or large format retail chains.
- Demonstrated ability to manage end-to-end range reviews aligned with commercial and execution KPIs.
- Strong commercial understanding including P&L responsibilities and financial data interpretation.
- Advanced negotiation skills with experience managing national accounts at head office level.
- Results-oriented and self-reliant working style suitable for dynamic, multi-channel business environments.
- Excellent presentation skills, capable of delivering compelling insights to internal and external stakeholders.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and ERP systems such as SAP.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as requirements dictate.
