About the Opportunity

Gympie Regional Council invites applications for a fixed-term Team Member role based in Kilkivan, focused primarily on rural road grading, maintenance, and civil construction work. This position is full-time and onsite for an initial 12-month term, with possible extension depending on council needs. The successful candidate will join a multi-disciplined maintenance team, contributing to the upkeep and improvement of essential local infrastructure.

Role Responsibilities

  • Safely operate and maintain various plant, trucks, equipment, and hand tools.
  • Carry out rural road grading, construction, and maintenance activities.
  • Perform manual labour tasks including earthworks, drainage, stormwater management, pavements, concreting, and associated civil works.
  • Collaborate with other council teams to complete scheduled works and adapt to priority changes.
  • Organize and plan road construction and maintenance work with limited supervision.
  • Identify workplace hazards and actively support health and safety initiatives.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts and implement innovative workforce technologies.
  • Respond professionally to community and council stakeholder requests.
  • Undertake other relevant duties as required.

Candidate Profile and Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience operating plant, vehicles, and equipment competently.
  • Physically capable of performing demanding manual tasks, including heavy lifting and bending.
  • Effective team player with positive interaction skills for colleagues and public.
  • Ability to independently plan and organize operational activities.
  • Strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
  • Adaptability to changing work environments and priorities with sound judgement.
  • Experience with road construction, earthworks, pavements, drainage, stormwater, or concreting is highly valued.
  • Holds a current Queensland HR Class Driver Licence or higher.
  • Holds relevant plant and equipment competencies and a Queensland General Construction Induction Card (White Card).
  • Roller operation competency or equivalent is required.

Preferred Qualifications and Tickets

  • Certification for Civil Construction Wheeled Front End Loader (RIIMPO321B).
  • Certification in Skid Steer Loader Operations (RIIMPO318D).
  • Certification in Excavator Operations (RIIMPO320F).
  • Certification in Grader Operations (RIIMPO324F).
  • Working at Heights and Traffic Management Implementation qualifications.
  • Certificate III in Civil Construction, Plant Operations, or related qualification.
