About Marafiki United Green Youths Initiative
Marafiki United Green Youths Initiative is a youth-driven and gender-sensitive organization dedicated to tackling the planetary triple crisis through actionable and community-focused efforts. The organization's work spans biodiversity restoration, ecosystem recovery, sustainable food systems, renewable energy, and sustainable urban development to foster resilient, healthy communities. Its teams collaborate with local partners, educational institutions, and community groups to enhance environmental consciousness and implement sustainable practices, emphasizing youth leadership in climate action.
Role Summary
The Sustainability Education Officer will be engaged full-time onsite in Kampala. This role involves creating and delivering environmental education programs targeted at schools, youth groups, and community members. Responsibilities include developing sustainability curriculum and instructional resources, leading outreach and awareness initiatives, and facilitating interactive learning related to biodiversity, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, and environmentally conscious urban living. The officer will work closely with program teams to integrate educational elements into ongoing projects, gather participant feedback, and prepare reports detailing educational impacts. The role further requires building strong communication channels with partners, supporting advocacy efforts, and representing the organization at relevant local events.
Qualifications and Competencies
- Proven expertise in education and curriculum design, with a focus on crafting sustainability-centered learning materials suitable for varied age groups.
- Exceptional communication talents, including public speaking and facilitation skills, enabling effective engagement across diverse audiences on environmental themes.
- Strong analytical and research capabilities for assessing community requirements, evaluating program success, and embedding evidence-based strategies into educational activities.
- Thorough understanding of sustainability, climate change, biodiversity, and allied environmental issues, particularly in youth or community education contexts.
- Competence to operate collaboratively within a youth-led, gender-focused framework, managing multiple responsibilities at the Kampala site.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities, with meticulous attention to planning and documentation of education-related tasks.
- Experience fostering partnerships with schools, community groups, or local establishments is desirable.
- Willingness and capability to travel to schools and workshops using public transport, walking, or taxis while carrying necessary materials and equipment.
