Job description

Purpose

As a Support Worker, you will be instrumental in assisting individuals to participate in meaningful and fulfilling daily activities. Collaborating within a supportive team setting, you will provide care tailored to each person's dignity, choices, and goals.

You will have the chance to positively influence lives by helping individuals build confidence, learn life skills, and engage actively in their communities, in accordance with the principles of New Directions.

Location and Hours

The role is based across Day Services in SOS Kilkenny, County Kilkenny, Ireland. Working hours are 37.5 hours weekly, Monday through Friday.

Compensation

The salary corresponds with the HSE Consolidated Pay Scale for Supervisor/Instructor (Specialist Agency) effective February 2026, ranging between €34,566 and €49,897 annually.

Key Accountabilities

  • Deliver high-quality, individualized care aligned with the goals and preferences of each individual.
  • Act as a key worker facilitating the development, implementation, and review of personalized plans and programs.
  • Support meaningful day activities including education, training, and social engagement.
  • Promote independence and skill-building, empowering individuals to make informed decisions.
  • Encourage participation in community life, enabling access to diverse experiences.
  • Communicate effectively in ways that are accessible and meaningful to individuals.
  • Assist with practical aspects of day programs and activities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, families, and professionals to deliver consistent support.
  • Contribute to safety and wellbeing culture adhering to policies and managing risks effectively.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and reports as required.
  • Engage in ongoing training and professional development.
  • Ensure a safe and respectful environment, responding promptly to safeguarding concerns.

Required Qualifications

  • Registration with CORU as a Social Care Worker is mandatory.
  • Qualification at QQI Level 7 or 8 in Social Care or related field, or equivalent leading to CORU registration.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities and/or autism preferred.
  • Proven ability in delivering person-centered support.
  • Knowledge of positive behaviour support and low arousal approaches is advantageous.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Familiarity with New Directions, Health Act 2007, HIQA, National Standards, and related regulatory requirements.
  • Understanding of the key worker notion and philosophies in disability support.
  • Strong grasp of person-centered and human rights-based methodologies.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork abilities.
  • Capability to work independently, use initiative, and problem-solve.
  • Dedication to continual professional growth.
  • Organizational competence and proficiency with IT tools.

Additional Requirements

  • Possession of a full, clean Irish driving license.

Contract Information and Reporting

This full-time position is a one-year fixed-term contract reporting to the Day Service Manager.
