About the Role
The University of Fredericton is seeking a Student Loan Officer to join its team remotely within New Brunswick, aiming to facilitate student access to higher education through adept guidance on federal and provincial loan programs. This role combines expertise in student financial aid with a focus on excellent service, assisting students and applicants in navigating funding options and ensuring compliance with regulatory and institutional requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate and process student loan applications from federal and provincial sources such as Canada Student Loans and regional programs.
- Confirm student eligibility and manage enrollment statuses to support loan disbursement and compliance.
- Monitor application progress and actively assist students in completing required documentation within deadlines.
- Provide personalized counseling to students and families on financial aid options, repayment terms, budgeting for educational expenses, and identification of supplementary funding sources.
- Maintain adherence to legal and institutional standards including confidentiality and privacy laws while managing loan documentation and records.
- Facilitate communication between students, financial aid authorities, and internal university departments to ensure coherent student support and smooth onboarding experience.
- Compile reports on loan activity, disbursement periods, and funding trends; recommend process improvements based on observed challenges.
Qualifications
- A minimum of a college diploma in a business domain or higher education, or equivalent relevant work experience and education combination.
- At least two years of professional experience handling financial aid, loan processing, or related financial services in Canada.
- Knowledge of Canadian financial aid programs such as Canada Student Loans, provincial programs, and experience with CRM or student information software is preferred.
- Strong communication skills, attention to detail in documentation, confidentiality management, and proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM tools.
Work Environment and Terms
- This position is remote-first, located within New Brunswick, with occasional in-person gatherings for training or meetings as necessary.
- Standard full-time hours are 35 per week, primarily during regular business hours, with occasional extended hours during peak enrollment phases.
- The role encourages collaboration across departments in a team-oriented setting and supports flexible work practices.
