About the Role
The position of Sterile Services Technician plays a vital role involving meticulous sterilisation, preparation, and upkeep of surgical instruments and equipment. This is a permanent, part-time role requiring 40 hours per week, arranged on a rotating schedule from Monday to Saturday.
Key Responsibilities
- Adhering to established policies and procedures to ensure thorough cleaning and sterilisation of medical instruments and equipment, preventing infection and contamination risks.
- Carefully repackaging instruments and assigning them to correct kits with precision.
- Pursuing or completing certification in sterilising technology through on-the-job training.
- Operating sterilisation devices such as washers, autoclaves, steris machines, and low-temperature hydrogen peroxide sterilisation compliant with required standards.
- Conducting checks to confirm that loan equipment kits are comprehensive and processed promptly to be ready for theatre use.
Skills and Experience
- Prior experience in healthcare theatres or sterile services is beneficial but not mandatory.
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to focus on minute tasks, including work involving microscopes.
- Possession of a current NZSSA qualification or willingness to engage in on-the-job certification training.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong team-oriented approach.
- Proactive, enthusiastic, and adaptable attitude towards work responsibilities.
