Role Overview

The Specialist, Cost position at AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited is responsible for delivering comprehensive cost-control services and estimation support for various projects. The role focuses on developing and applying cost management systems that ensure accurate, timely financial data is available for project managers and stakeholders to facilitate informed decision-making.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Uphold AngloGold Ashanti’s core values in all professional activities and decisions.
  • Promote full adherence to site safety regulations and encourage a culture of zero harm in all operations.
  • Create both conceptual and detailed cost models for projects, including business plans and control budgets derived from technical specifications.
  • Produce and regularly update project cost reports, cash flow forecasts, variance analyses, and risk explanations for management and stakeholders.
  • Work with Project Leads and the Planning and Scheduling team to establish and implement project work breakdown and cost breakdown structures.
  • Develop and coordinate budgets that accurately reflect project estimates and structural breakdowns.
  • Monitor and manage costs throughout each phase of the project lifecycle till completion or closure.
  • Conduct quality assurance assessments regarding contractor cost management performance.
  • Organize benchmarking activities and establish technical limits both internally and externally.
  • Perform project cost risk analysis and review all related financial data such as accruals, invoices, purchase orders, and material delivery records.
  • Support cost-related inputs for change management processes and tracking work-in-place, commitments, and forecast estimates at project completion.
  • Oversee annual project spending projections, cost reconciliations, and variance reporting.
  • Collaborate with diverse functions and teams to optimize processes, resolve priority conflicts, and ensure adherence to best project practices.
  • Implement project-wide cost tracking and reporting mechanisms, including schedules and report roll-ups.
  • Assist in project budget estimation, cost control, and change management procedures.
  • Facilitate approval workflows for contractor payments, progress claims, and invoicing.
  • Conduct monthly cost reconciliations and forecasting exercises.
  • Provide information supporting planning guidelines, resource management strategies, and report preparation aligned with key project milestones and schedules.
  • Support the seamless handover and closure of projects.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • A tertiary degree in Engineering disciplines such as Mining, Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, or a related field.
  • Certification such as PMP or Ghana Institute of Engineers (GHIE) accreditation is advantageous.
  • Possession of a valid Ghanaian manual driver’s license as mandated by site requirements.
  • At least four years of demonstrated experience in engineering or mining cost modeling.
  • Experience in underground mining or process plant infrastructure planning is desirable.
  • Familiarity with capital project evaluation, cost control techniques, and project governance is expected.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong communication skills with experience collaborating in contractor-owner partnerships and cross-functional teams.
  • Understanding of aligning project scope, schedule sequencing, and costing within operational frameworks.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, with additional knowledge of Xeras software seen as a plus.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills for supporting project planning and documentation.
  • Analytical approach focused on precision in cost estimation, compliance, and project execution.
  • Capability to work extensively on computers within an office setting.
  • Physically able to meet site medical and functional fitness standards.

This role is based in Obuasi, Ghana.
