Overview
Torbay Assessment & Intervention Service invites applications for a full-time Social Worker specializing in Assessment and Child Protection. The position focuses on delivering intensive family support to create nurturing environments where children can thrive safely within the community.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of children and families to evaluate needs and risks.
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to develop tailored intervention plans.
- Provide support and guidance for at-risk families to promote long-term well-being and stability.
- Manage a caseload effectively and participate in a duty rota to maintain smooth service operations.
- Maintain accurate records and produce detailed reports using appropriate IT tools.
Candidate Profile
The ideal applicant will have substantial knowledge of child welfare policies and social care legislation, along with strong communication and emotional management skills. The ability to work independently while being a cooperative team player is essential, as is a commitment to anti-discriminatory principles and ethical practice standards.
Skills and Knowledge
- Excellent interpersonal, mediation, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Capacity to handle crisis situations with clarity, sensitivity, and professionalism.
- Proficient in applying anti-discriminatory practices throughout all aspects of work.
- Ability to mentor colleagues in upholding ethical and professional standards.
- Fluency and confidence in spoken English.
- In-depth understanding of children's social care services, legislation, and related frameworks including child development, attachment theory, and social work methodologies.
- Awareness of effective management approaches and continual legal updates.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree qualification in Social Work or equivalent (Dip SW, CQSW, CSS).
- Registered membership with Social Work England.
- Proven track record of post-qualification experience working with children and families under current legislative frameworks.
- Experience handling complex child protection cases including court proceedings under the Children’s Act 1989.
- Active commitment to ongoing professional development.
Additional Information
This role involves regulated activity, requiring an Enhanced Criminal Record Check with Barred List checks. Interviews will take place in the week commencing 24th August 2026.
