- Connect Tableau to multiple data platforms such as Snowflake, SQL Server, Oracle, and other databases.
- Create clear, efficient visualizations, KPIs, and business metrics.
- Provide full-cycle support, including issue diagnosis, performance tuning, and incident resolution.
- Work closely with global users during US/night hours to gather needs and deliver solutions.
- Convert business requirements into practical dashboard and reporting solutions.
- Write and tune advanced SQL for extraction and analysis.
- Apply validation checks to improve data accuracy and dashboard reliability.
- Improve workbook and dashboard performance through optimized extracts, filters, and calculations.
- Track data refreshes and help ensure SLA commitments are met.
- Document dashboards, data sources, operating procedures, and support processes.
- Guide junior developers and share technical best practices.
- Own the design, governance, and lifecycle management of a large Tableau estate, including about 200 dashboards and 236 workbooks.
- Set and enforce standards for naming, development quality, reusable frameworks, and performance optimization.
- Design scalable published data sources, connection patterns, and extract strategies for an AWS-based environment.
- Review code and dashboard designs from peers to maintain consistency and quality.
- Assess and introduce newer Tableau capabilities such as Tableau Pulse, dynamic parameters, and Einstein analytics integration where relevant.
- Handle advanced L2/L3 support cases involving performance issues, incorrect data, and platform failures.
- Lead major enhancements from requirement gathering through release, managing timelines, scope, and stakeholder expectations.
- Reduce manual effort by automating refreshes, extract updates, report distribution, and related tasks.
- Maintain the ServiceNow backlog with accurate categorization, prioritization, and throughput visibility.
- Communicate backlog status, delivery plans, and resource constraints to stakeholders and leadership.
- Support CSAT improvement by owning stakeholder satisfaction within the Tableau delivery domain.
- Coach junior and mid-level BI engineers through knowledge sharing and mentoring.
- Create and maintain runbooks, design documentation, onboarding material, and operational playbooks.
- Identify dashboards and workbooks that can be consolidated, retired, or shifted to self-service models.
Required experience and background
- At least 6 years of enterprise Tableau development experience; overall experience of 6 to 9 years is expected.
- Strong hands-on knowledge of advanced Tableau concepts such as calculated fields, LOD expressions, table calculations, and set actions.
- Advanced SQL skills for modeling, performance tuning, and custom query development; IBM DB2 and/or SQL Server knowledge is preferred.
- Experience administering Tableau Server or Tableau Cloud, including access control, extract scheduling, subscriptions, and site administration.
- Good understanding of data modeling, including star and snowflake schemas and enterprise data warehouse concepts.
- Ability to lead stakeholder discussions, collect requirements, and deliver analytics in regulated environments.
- Experience working within ITSM processes such as ServiceNow or a similar tool for intake, prioritization, and delivery tracking.
- Strong communication and presentation abilities, with the skill to explain technical topics to non-technical audiences.
