- Help transition and modernize legacy systems including a PHP monolith by defining boundaries and building distributed services with Go, Python, Next.js, and TypeScript technologies.
- Integrate AWS, Postgres, and MongoDB into the infrastructure with responsibility for cloud production environments.
- Drive innovation by incorporating advanced agentic AI tooling and frameworks into both the development process and the product platform to enhance productivity and enable agent consumption of services.
- Own long-term mission areas with operational autonomy and contribute actively to shaping overall platform strategy.
Candidate Profile and Requirements
- Proficiency in one or more of the following technologies: Python, TypeScript, Go, Next.js, AWS, Postgres, MongoDB.
- Strong understanding of software architecture principles including object-oriented design, event-driven architecture, and distributed service design.
- Demonstrated experience in engineering distributed systems with evolving boundaries and complex integrations.
- Experience managing AWS production environments, including deployment and maintenance responsibilities.
- Background working in B2B software product organizations, preferably dealing with domains such as telecommunications, ERP, billing, subscription management, or complex B2B integrations.
- In-depth engagement with agentic AI beyond basic code generation, with practical implementations involving agent coordination, context management, workflow optimization, and parallelism.
Work Environment and Culture
- Be part of a senior engineering team with three principal engineers among nine members.
- Enjoy genuine ownership of ongoing projects beyond short-term deliverables.
- Work in a collaborative, open-office setting located in a historic Victoria Park building in Auckland.
- Benefit from a friendly social atmosphere including Friday lunches, beer on tap, and cultural events such as South African braais.
Additional Benefits
- $50 weekly public transport allowance.
- Annual learning and development budget of $2,000, fully self-directed.
- Birthday leave to celebrate your special day.
- A financially stable, self-funded business with strong board support and no reliance on external funding.
Ideal Traits
We seek curious, adaptable professionals who are comfortable with ambiguity and complexity. Ideal candidates take a holistic approach to understanding challenges, prioritize the best ideas over personal opinions, and actively engage across the organisation. Experience in scale-up environments and B2B product domains is highly valued, especially if you are accustomed to full ownership within evolving codebases and undefined workflows.
