Role Overview
Due to rapid expansion within our Water and Flood Risk Management division in Ireland and internationally, we seek a Senior Hydrologist & Hydraulic Modeller to join our flood risk management team. The position involves supporting numerous major flood defence and civil engineering projects focusing on climate adaptation and resilience. Candidates must demonstrate strong expertise in hydrological analysis and hydraulic modelling, integral to developing sustainable solutions for clients including government bodies and private sector organizations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage technical tasks and complete projects related to flood risk and water resource management.
- Provide guidance, supervision, and quality checks for junior staff to ensure high-quality deliverables.
- Engage in client relationship building and contribute to proposal development for new business opportunities.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Relevant degree or Master’s qualification in a related field.
- Substantial professional experience in hydrology and hydraulic modelling.
- Professional certification or progression towards chartered status (e.g., CEng, CSci) with recognized institutions such as IEI, CIWEM, or ICE.
- Proficiency with hydrological techniques and industry-standard methodologies including WINFAP, FEH, FSR, and FSU.
- Experience using hydraulic modelling software such as TUFLOW, Flood Modeller Pro, MIKE, HEC-RAS, and InfoWorks, covering 1D, 2D, and combined modelling approaches.
- Demonstrated success working on flood risk and water-related projects in the UK or Ireland.
- Strong commitment to environmental sustainability and related principles.
- Capable mentor with a proven record in managing and training junior engineers.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration and reporting.
- Experience in project appraisal, technical report writing, and preparation of flood risk assessments and hydrology chapters within Environmental Impact Assessment Reports.
- Proactive teamwork approach with an enthusiastic attitude toward work.
Desirable Skills
- Experience with GIS platforms such as ArcGIS and QGIS.
- Ability to automate workflows using programming tools like Python.
- Knowledge of water quality modelling in marine environments, including Ecolab modelling within MIKE.
