We are currently looking for a Senior Assessor – Logs based in Nelson. This casual, onsite position involves conducting inspections to uphold the integrity of the forestry sector by ensuring the logs meet national safety and quality standards before export or import. The role is critical in maintaining New Zealand’s border biosecurity by confirming that cargo is free from disease and contamination.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform detailed inspections and assessments on logs to verify compliance with safety and quality benchmarks.
- Communicate inspection findings clearly to internal teams and external clients.
- Utilize mobile applications and laptops for field data collection and reporting.
- Complete all required documentation promptly and within set deadlines.
- Protect New Zealand’s borders by certifying that transported logs are clean and disease-free.
Candidate Profile
- High attention to detail with the ability to deliver precise and professional feedback.
- Proficiency in using digital data entry systems in field settings, including mobile devices and laptops.
- Physically fit with enthusiasm for working outdoors in variable conditions.
- Flexible availability and readiness to work on short notice, including weekends based on shipping schedules.
- Willingness and ability to travel as needed to ports across New Zealand.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of navigating conflicting priorities.
- Commitment to maintaining high health and safety standards.
- Possession of a full, clean New Zealand driver’s license is preferred.
